Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. bulgaricus (L. bulgaricus) is widely used in the food industry, and this generally recognized as safe (GRAS) bacteria is used worldwide in yogurt production in cooperation with Streptococcus thermophilus. Despite the significant commercial value of Lactobacillus bulgaricus, the lack of effective genetic engineering tools has seriously hindered the better utilization of this microbe's potential as a GRAS host for the production and secretion of foreign proteins. Since the production of biologically significant output proteins depends on the efficiency of expression and secretion, the validation of basic tools such as the strong promoter of L. bulgaricus and the reporting of secreted proteins still need to be developed. L. bulgaricus is considered to be a probiotic that has been labeled as a friendly bacteria and is found in the enteric system as well as in the oral cavity. Intestinal bacterial therapy is a new therapy for chronic renal failure. It is amenable to oral administration as a micro-capsule containing the entire organism directly yielding the enzyme or expressing exogenous enzyme through genetic engineering. In recent years, engineered bacteria have been used to clear urine toxins and used as biological agents. Currently, engineered bacteria only produce a single enzyme, such as urease and uricase.

Abstract
To investigate the role of L. bulgaricus in the colitis-associated colon cancer (CAC) model. The probiotic group was given L. bulgaricus daily. Intestinal inflammation was determined by clinical symptom score. It was found that L. bulgaricus had an inhibitory effect on tumor volume and mean tumor size. In addition, probiotics can also reduce the clinical symptoms of intestinal inflammation. The research results indicate that L. bulgaricus has anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects in colitis-related carcinogenesis, and may play an important role in the prevention and treatment of CAC in the future.
