Deinococcus DNA

Deinococcus is a genus of Gram-positive bacteria that are famous for their extreme resistance to radiation and other environmental stressors. They are often called "extremophiles." Genomic DNA from Deinococcus is used to study the unique genetic mechanisms that allow it to repair massive DNA damage. Its applications include research into bioremediation of radioactive waste and DNA repair pathways.
